Subject Pact
A subject pact is a type of diplomatic pact in which one country (the subject) is subordinate to another country (the overlord). The subject becomes a part of its overlord’s market.
Subject Types
Protectorate
- A protectorate is a subject with a very high degree of autonomy. It can have its own subjects, make its own diplomatic plays, and isn’t required to join its overlord’s wars.
Puppet
- A subject with no diplomatic autonomy. Pays 30% of its income to its overlord.
Tributary
- A protectorate is a subject with a very high degree of autonomy, like a protectorate. It is only available to an Unrecognized overlord. It can have its own subjects, make its own diplomatic plays, and isn’t required to join its overlord’s wars. It also pays 20% of its income to its overlord.
Vassal
- A subject with no diplomatic autonomy. Available to unrecognized powers. Pays 30% of its income to its overlord.
Dominion
- A dominion has a high degree of diplomatic autonomy, being able to have its own subjects, start its own diplomatic plays, and not being obligated to join its overlord’s wars. However, it will be annexed upon country formation, and transfers 25% of its income to its overlord.
Personal Union
- A personal union is the only subject that shares the same ruler with its overlord. It cannot start its own diplomatic plays, always joins its overlord’s wars, and will be annexed upon country formation.
Customs Union
- While defined as a subject_type, it is not an actual subject relationship, and the senior partner has no real power over its junior partner. The only change it creates is that the junior partner joins the senior partner’s market.
