CALDWELL, Idaho (CBS 2) – The outdoor farmers market that aims to make farm-fresh goods grown in Caldwell and surrounding rural areas readily accessible begins 5 to 8 pm Tuesday, May 21 in downtown Caldwell at Indian Creek Plaza.

The Farm to Fork Farmers’ Market was developed by Destination Caldwell, a non-profit organization designing farm to fork experiences in Caldwell to spur economic development.

“Fruits, vegetables, and even award-winning wines do not have to travel very far to make it on my family’s table and we want to share that unique experience with more people,” said Keri Smith-Sigman, CEO of Destination Caldwell. “The new market will make it easier for consumers to get the fresh, local food they are craving and give our farmers another way to support their families.”

The Farmers Market Coalition, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, claims that farmers markets return more than three times as much of their revenue to the local economy than chain owned competitors.

The coalition also states that these markets not only preserve America’s rural livelihoods and stimulate local economies but they provide communities with a food healthy environment.

The Farm to Fork Farmers’ Market in Caldwell will feature more than just local produce; Destination Caldwell has curated producers of meat, dairy, bread, wine, and specialty foods so customers can get most of their groceries straight from the source.

The first market will feature vegetable plant starts, farm-raised beef, and award-winning wine from the Sunnyslope Wine Trail.

As more produce becomes available in late summer the market will grow and chefs will be brought in to cook and sell food created from what is available at the market that day.

“It is an exciting time for farm families in Caldwell. We want Caldwell to be known for our wine country, farm-fresh goods, and farm to fork dining,” said Gregg Alger, owner of Huston Vineyards and Destination Caldwell board member. “This premium market at Indian Creek Plaza is a great platform to highlight all aspects of our vibrant agriculture community.”

The first market will be held in conjunction with the kick-off of Indian Creek Plaza’s summer concert series, Tuesdays on the Creek.

Live music by Douglas Cameron & John Fricke starts at 6 p.m., followed by former American Idol contestant, Maddie Zahm at 7:30 p.m.

The Farm to Fork Farmers’ Market and Tuesdays on the Creek summer concert series will take place weekly, rain or shine, from 5 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays from May 21, through September 17, 2019.
