Boise State head football coach, Andy Avalos announced on Saturday Matt Miller will remain as wide receivers coach.

“Matt is about as blue collar as they come, a Montana boy that loves this program and this community as much as anyone that has put on the jersey. He was an outstanding wide receiver, and he’s also an outstanding coach. Our student-athletes are fortunate to be able to learn from him, and we’re fortunate to have him mentoring the student-athletes that come into this program," Avalos said.

Prior to Boise State, Miller coached at Montana State from 2016-19. He coached wide receivers from 2016 until being promoted to offensive coordinator midway through the 2018 season. He was also the Bobcats’ recruiting coordinator from 2017 until his promotion. Montana State reached the Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs in 2018 and 2019.

In 2019, Montana State led the Big Sky and was eighth nationally in rushing offense (258.1 yards per game). The Bobcats were 25th in the country in total offense (426.5 yards per game).

In 2020, Miller mentored Khalil Shakir, a Pro Football Focus Honorable Mention All-American. Shakir recorded 52 receptions for 719 yards and six touchdowns. He added 148 rushing yards and was one of only two players nationally with 700 yards receiving and 100 yards rushing this season. He led the Mountain West and was 10th nationally with 7.43 receptions per game.

A native of Helena, Mont., Miller began his career as an offensive quality control assistant at Boise State in 2015.

Miller was a wide receiver at Boise State (2011-14), earning Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-America in 2011 before earning All-Mountain West honors in 2012 as part of the Broncos’ conference championship team.

He repeated as an all-conference selection in 2013 and was the MVP of the 2013 Hawaii Bowl. As a senior, Miller was part of another Mountain West championship team, a squad that defeated Arizona in the Fiesta Bowl.

Miller ended his playing career as Boise State’s career leader in receptions (244) while ranking second in receiving yards (3,049) and third in receiving touchdowns (29).

“Having come through here as a student-athlete, I know how much this culture that we’ve had here for so long can help build young men of character, and I’m excited to be able to help instill that in the next generation of Broncos. This program and this community have done a lot for me, and I’m looking forward to continuing to be part of both," Miller said.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in business from Boise State in 2014 and is married to Sarah Baugh, a former standout volleyball student-athlete for the Broncos from 2012-15.
