Early Life

Willem Rebergen was born on the 12th of September, 1985, in Veenendaal, Netherlands.

From an early age, Rebergen was interested in music.

Having struggled with bullying at school, He looked for a distraction to make himself happy and so joined a local kid’s choir.

He had his first exposure to a professional studio, recording Christmas albums with the choir.

This experience left Rebergen interested and inspired by the process of creating music from the other side of the studio.

Career

Willem Rebergen, best known as Headhunterz, got his first set of turntables in 2003 and started making music.

He began sending out demos using the name Nasty D-Tuners with Bobby van Putten, and together they won the Defqon. 1 DJ contest.

A year later, they were signed to the music label Hardcontrol and began taking DJ classes at the Rock Academy in the Netherlands.

Unfortunately, Headhunterz found a lack of resources geared towards Hardstyle at the Academy and moved to the label Scantraxx.

After signing, Rebergen began going by the name Headhunterz with van Putten, and they performed at Q-Base and The Prophet’s X-Qlusive.

Wanting to become one of the richest DJs in the world, Headhunterz continued to work hard to increase his popularity in the Hardstyle scene.

Making Music

In 2006, Headhunterz released “Aiming for Your Brain/Left Some Answers” and “The Sacrifice/D-Tuned,” which became their most successful single.

However, van Putten soon split from Headhunterz to continue his studies at the Rock Academy, and Scantraxx gave Rebergen his sublabel, Scantraxx Reloaded.

Headhunterz’s first release on Reload was the Vinyl EP Victim of My Rage in 2006, and he performed at the Q-Dance event Qlimax.

In 2008, Headhunterz collaborated with Scantraxx artist Wildstylez to release “Blame It On the Music / Project 1.”

Soon after, he and Wildstylez released the debut album, Headhunterz & Wildstylez Present: Project One.

The following year, Headhunterz released seven new singles, including the Defqon. 1 Anthem “Scrap Attack.”

In 2010, Headhunterz started gaining popularity worldwide, and his international books overtook his local ones.

He released his first studio album, Studio Sessions, followed by a world tour that saw him performing in the U.S., Russia, Canada, and Australia.

Now as well-known as DJ Tiesto, Headhunterz had become a significant player in the electronic music genre.

An Accomplished DJ

Headhunterz released his second studio album, Sacrifice, in 2012 and donated all sales profits to Dance4Life.

Alongside this album, he releases several remixes from popular house artists, including “Lessons in Love” by Kaskade and Hardwell’s “Spaceman.”

That same year, he also performed at several festivals, including Tomorrowland, Electric Daisy Carnival, and Mysteryland.

After signing with Ultra Music in 2013, he released the single “Colors” and started his own record label, HARDwithSTYLE Records.

In 2015, Headhunterz went on a six-week tour across North America and collaborated with Steve Aoki at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami.

The following year, he teamed up with Wildstylez again as Project One and performed at Qlimax.

Headhunterz Recent Work

After remixing Armin van Buuren’s “Another You,” Headhunterz made a surprise appearance at Defqon. 1 in 2016.

He returned to Defqon. 1 in 2017 and, in 2018, announced his new label with Wildstylez, Art of Creation.

Wanting to return to Hardstyle, he released his third album, The Return of Headhunterz, in March 2018.

His most recent release was in 2022 with the single “Time to Dance Again,” which he released through Art of Creation.

Favorite Quotes From Headhunterz

“I only started realizing it after I stopped producing within the harder styles, but the ‘community in that scene is like nothing else. I’m happy that at that moment, a whole new world opened in front of me, like in the studio when I was working on new music. A family that is united as one is only found in the Hardstyle scene, nowhere else.” – Headhunterz

“I wasn’t ready to say “Okay, this is it.” I’m too curious and want to have new challenges. I had the feeling that within my Hardstyle career I’d conquered everything already; both in the studio and every year with the same gigs.” – Headhunterz

“I’m very happy for the chance to get this career, and I’m really enjoying it, but I realize every day that there is more to life like family, love, and living. I want to live when it’s time; now in the summer that’s really hard, but I believe that balance is essential.” – Headhunterz

“I was in LA in my hotel room just making some melodies, and at some point, I had a synth with a bit of Indian touch. And I was not getting out with the drop and stuff, so my manager was like KHSMR: so cool! I’m a huge fan of his sound, so I just sent the project over and didn’t expect much. However, I then received an e-mail back with “well, and I’m a fan of your sound!” – Headhunterz

“The essence of Hardstyle is not to be completely mainstream. It’s right beneath the surface, and it’s here – If people wanna find it, they are going to, if not, then they won’t.” – Headhunterz
